How much does a website cost in Quebec: showcase, store or portal?

"A website" covers three very different products: a presence of a few pages, a store that takes payments, and an application your clients and team work in. Their prices don't compare, and neither do their timelines.

Three sites, three budgets

H1 Site publishes these ranges in Quebec (March 2026), and Web Nordique these timelines (August 2026):

  • aShowcase website, a professional presence of a few pages: $1,500 to $5,000, in 4 to 12 weeks.
  • bE-commerce, with a store, payments and product management: $5,000 to $25,000, in 2 to 4 months.
  • cClient portal or web application, with accounts and custom workflows: $15,000 to $50,000, in 3 to 6+ months.
02

What moves the price of a showcase site

Our view: within one tier, the gap comes mostly from content. A site whose copy, photos and structure are ready is built quickly; a site whose content must be written, or whose photos are awaited, stretches.

AquaDrill's site is an example: the client supplied a complete 31-section brief, and every part of the site points back to its section. The site photos arrived later and went straight into the frames prepared for them, without touching the layout.

03

French, and other languages

In Quebec, a business's commercial publications must be written in French, including on its website; our Bill 96 guide details these obligations. A bilingual site is planned from the structure, not at the end.

A right-to-left language such as Arabic takes more than translation: the layout, the arrows and even the phone numbers turn around.

04

The cost after launch

A website lives on: hosting, domain name, security updates, up-to-date content. For a portal or web application, Bolle and Modall put yearly maintenance at 15% to 20% of the initial build cost.

Before asking for a quote

Prepare these; they make quotes comparable:

  • athe type of site: showcase, store or portal;
  • bthe pages and what each must do;
  • cthe content available: copy, photos, logo, and what's missing;
  • dthe languages, French included;
  • ethe integrations: form, payment, calendar, existing tools.

To do

The list to keep at hand.

  • Choose the type of site: showcase, store or portal.
  • Gather copy, photos and logo before starting.
  • Plan French from the structure.
  • List the integrations: form, payment, calendar.
  • Budget hosting, domain and maintenance.
