Integrating AI into your product: from use case to production

Most AI projects fail between the demo and production. The demo answers ten chosen questions well; production must answer thousands of unforeseen questions correctly, at a reasonable cost.

01

Pick a use case that pays

A good first AI project ticks three boxes:

  • aa repetitive task that costs time every week;
  • ban occasional AI error is acceptable or easy to correct;
  • cthe gain is measurable: minutes saved, tickets resolved, conversion rate.
02

Assistant, agent or RAG?

An assistant answers a request. An agent chains several steps and uses tools. RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) has the AI search your documents before answering, with sources.

For most companies, RAG over their own documents is the safest starting point: answers rest on what you already know, and can be checked.

03

Measure quality before launch

Build a test set: real questions and the expected answers. Measure before launch, then after every change of model or prompt. Without that measurement, every improvement is an impression.

04

What an AI project costs

Apptunix publishes $25,000 to $60,000 for an AI chatbot and $30,000 to $300,000+ depending on complexity in Canada. Model usage costs come on top and grow with usage: track them from day one.

05

Personal data and Law 25

If the AI processes personal information, the integration is an information-system development project under Quebec's Law 25: a privacy impact assessment is required, and any transfer of data outside Quebec must be assessed. Our Law 25 guide details these obligations.
